Lava, long frozen in its rocky form — liquefying, vitrifying, becoming something entirely new.

CÉLINE MARTINANT

Céline Martinant grew up in the shadow of the Auvergne volcanoes, shaped by their brooding landscapes and the slow, ancient logic of lava.

In 2011, drawn by the textures and shifting colors of volcanic stone, she began exploring what heat could unlock. During her studies at the École supérieure des métiers d'art in Yzeure, she subjected volcanic minerals to extreme temperatures — not knowing what she would find. What she discovered was metamorphosis: lava, long frozen in its rocky form, liquefying, vitrifying, becoming something entirely new.

This revelation became her practice. In 2018, she founded the workshop "Un Air de Croûte Terrestre" within Andésite — a company that has extracted volcanic stone from the Chaîne des Puys for five decades. There, in this singular creative laboratory born from the earth itself, she crafts pieces where geological force meets quiet elegance.
