Walnut root stained with Indian ink, oak and unknown wood tray; oil-finished, one-of-a-kind piece. Sculptural table. Symbiosis is the intertwined result of the merging forces of nature. Death coexists with life here, and like a chimera, this piece evokes the omnipotence of nature and its laws. The walnut burl has been entirely hand-carved, accentuating and complementing the circular, thread-like movement of its original form. Joerg Koziol’s work balances a peaceful respect for the nature of the materials he uses with mathematical abstraction that serves as a revelation of organic matter.
Joerg Koziol is an artist who blends an organic language, inhabited by the mystical presence of a wild nature, and a mathematical and rigorous approach. These two worlds reveal their raw beauty to one another. It is geometry that expresses the sensitive aspect of the living and the untamed nature that responds to the measured. Delicately reviling the powerful lines inside of the wooden pieces that he discovers.
