PEDESTAL III

[ZEYNEP BOYAN]

The Pedestal Collection is Zeynep Boyan’s ongoing body of work exploring form, texture, and structure. Each piece is created entirely by hand through an intuitive and slow process. Using centuries-old techniques, the collection unfolds as abstract, biomorphic studies shaped by time and touch.

Zeynep Boyan is a Turkish-Dutch artist based in Munich. Her practice centres on form, texture, and structure, with each piece built entirely by hand using traditional techniques and centuries-old processes. With a background in cinema, Boyan approaches objects through composition, proportion, and spatial presence. Working primarily with stoneware clay, she develops abstract sculptures that investigate weight, balance, and materiality through slow, physical methods. Marks and textures from the making process are preserved rather than concealed, giving each work a distinct surface language. Surfaces are often left unglazed, allowing the raw clay body to remain visible and tactile. Her work often recalls architectural fragments, ancient artifacts, and built forms that feel both familiar and undefined. Edges are softened, and proportions are carefully adjusted by hand, resulting in objects that feel grounded and self- contained. Rooted in sculpture, her practice occasionally expands into functional objects that retain the same material rigour and spatial presence.
