DISQUE BI II

€700.00

[SARA MAUVILLY]

The Bi disc represents the symbol of the celestial universe. It is a disc with a circular hole in the center, symbolizing the gateway to eternal life. Originally, the Bi disc was a ritual object used during ceremonies to celebrate the worship of the Sun and the Sky. Shamans used this tool to communicate with other worlds. Typically made from semi-precious stones, the first Bi discs appeared in China 3,000 years before Christ. According to Chinese tradition, they bring their owners a happy life, wealth, and protection against illness.

Chamotte stoneware, from Normandy. Hand-formed. Black and gray glaze applied with a brush.

Sara Mauvilly lives and works in the Paris region. She trained in ceramics for many years before opening her own studio. Her approach is deeply influenced by her early aesthetic encounters with Japanese craftsmanship, which sharpened her eye and instilled a rigorous discipline in her practice. Sara Mauvilly creates unique pieces or very limited editions. Her approach is guided by movement, emotion, and her innate sensitivity. She experiments with forms and glazes, all prepared by the ceramicist using mineral-based materials. Her free-form practice, rooted in the moment, allows her to unfold a vast universe and explore the interplay of materials and the fusion of colors.
