Iris Drouet explores languages of abstraction through textile techniques. Her work is informed by the primitive sources behind early modernism, the one that took its purity of lines from folk arts, a lost fact illustrated by the abundant collection of anonymous and antique rugs and textiles present in the collections of modern masters, revealing how hand techniques may shape a structure of thoughts. The simpler the tool is, the more the artist, anonymous as it is, engage into an expression towards abstraction - and the very nature of weaving, the crossing of verticals and horizontals, shape her works into linearity, materiality and minimal expression.
Works are hand woven and improvised by the artist on her wooden looms. From her background in architecture, space and materials dialogue to shape the final piece.
This piece was woven during her performance Un certain désir de silence in Paris on the 11th and 12th of September 2026.
