[ALICE TRESCARTE]
After studying in Paris at the École Duperré and while working as an artistic director, Alice Trescarte began working with ceramics in 2016. She approaches this new field as a realm for artistic and technical exploration. She blends clays and influences, oscillating between the rigor of the decorative arts and more brutalist and primitive forms of expression. Her gestures spontaneously explore the materiality of this medium and erect familiar anthropomorphic figures—somewhere between totems and golems—which, once fired, take on the appearance of stone. In her work, she evokes the ruin-like chaos and granite riverbeds of the Cévennes, her native region. From this territory, she now sources the schist stone that makes up most of her ash glazes and contributes to the mineral quality of her work.
